On Saturday 8th July 200 Royal Mail employees, their family and friends, and charity partners took part in the Pride in London celebrations, giving away exclusive ‘Delivering with Pride’ postcards to the huge crowds gathered along the parade route. Members of charity Action for Children’s Inclusive Networks Awards award-winning LGBT+ staff network Celebrate joined their corporate partner Royal Mail in the colourful parade, networking, making new friends and soaking up the euphoric atmosphere.
Royal Mail’s LGBT & Friends network was established three years ago as one of several different diversity steering groups. The group has a vision to champion Royal Mail Group as the best employer for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, a recognisable LGBT hero within the community and to celebrate it’s diverse workforce. Whilst still in its infancy, they have already helped bring about change to the way the business thinks about their LGBT employees with policies and uniforms and they are helping to weave an LGBT thread through their internal and external image.
“The group has a vision to champion Royal Mail Group as the best employer for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.”
Royal Mail is one of the largest employers in the UK, directly employing around 139,000. One in 175 employed people in the UK work for Royal Mail, and they also support a further 114,100 jobs in the wider UK economy. The business has lots to be proud of, being one of ‘The Times Top 50 Employers for Women’ in 2017 and a multiple ‘Business in the Community’ award-winner.
