York St John University were the most recognised University at the 2015 Inclusive Networks Awards, finalists in an impressive four categories. Jo Thompson, Head of Human Resources, was named Network Champion of the Year at the awards, held in Manchester on 19th November 2015.
Jo has played a pivotal role in the founding and the continued success of the inclusive LGBT Staff Network at the University. Her passion, energy and enthusiasm for the work of the network never diminishes. As an ally she is at the forefront of network activities. She is a welcome presence at all the network events and is usually one of the helpers, organisers or contributors, bringing her own energy and flair to any proceedings and ensuring that the needs of all stakeholders are met. Through her pioneering work with the network she has been able to take that experience and apply it to other, similar, networks within the University that have been established.
“Being shortlisted for four awards was an extraordinary achievement in itself for our LGBT Staff Network.”
Dr Fiona Thompson, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Chair of the LGBT Staff Network, said :
“Being shortlisted for four awards was an extraordinary achievement in itself for our LGBT Staff Network. Getting a highly commended for Collaboration of the Year was a recognition of the power of working in partnerships with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and the City of York Council. The icing on the cake was to be with over 200 network group representatives at the awards ceremony and hear Jo Thompson named as Network Champion of the Year. A fantastic achievement and well-deserved for all her hard work and commitment to the Staff Network.”
The Network was also highly commended in the Collaboration of the Year category for its work with the City of York Council and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation on the All Out conference held during York LGBT History Month 2015. They were also shortlisted in two other categories – Employee LGBT Network of the Year and Inspiring Member of the Year (Andy Law).
Earlier this year the network was also named one of our Awesome Networks, one of only 100 networks from all over the UK to be recognised.
